My Pandemic Reading List.....So Far

I’ve been reading my eyeballs out since this pandemic started. Seriously. I stay up so late with some of these books that I am barely recognizable the next morning. Just kidding….that happens even when I’m not reading books into the wee hours of the morning. It's called being in your late 30’s. Every day you see something new and changing in your face that makes you look just a tad bit older.  Paaaahhhh…….it’s remarkable. You go to bed, you wake up, and BAM, suddenly you’re one day older. Sad but true. Whoops….got a little sidetracked there.

Okay, so, I’ve been reading a ton. And mostly YA fiction about Faeries. No, I am not making that up.

But, wait, you’re in your late 30's and you’re reading books for youths.

Yes, I am. Do. Not. Judge.

I seriously love them. Some of these books have like 8 books in the series and I legit miss these characters when the books are over. Waiting for them to be up in my library queue is excruciating. They are my friends. If you have actual friends, then maybe I’m being a little dramatic for you, but after being on the lonely side of motherhood for the last 8 years, these characters feel like real friends. Like they understand me. And even though I’m not being whisked away to the land of the Fae by my half-sister’s royal Fae father, where I’ll be living as a lowly human among powerful mystical creatures, I feel like we have things in common. Or, like maybe when I was an actual young adult, I would have had things in common with these characters. I mean, no,  when I was a young adult I wasn’t trying to distinguish the meaning of Wyrd marks on ancient castle walls, or discovering that I, in fact, was able to morph into a Fae being. But like yeah, there's stuff in there about boys, and liking boys, and having more than one boy like you at the same time. So yeah. Totally relatable.

Well, okay, maybe I didn’t have any of that either. But still. They’re my friends and I want you to be nice. I care about them. I’m providing you a very eclectic list of my Covid reading so keep an open mind if you choose to read some of these books.

Pretend you have been a cooped up baby machine, lactating, nursing mom feeling like your one purpose in life is to be used for pumping milk into the constantly hungry babe that you grew in your body for the previous nine months. Pretend, you’re the mom that wakes up 14 times a night with 3 kids that have the stomach flu at the same time. Pretend you’ve had very little to no adult human contact for the last few years, and yeah, you will enjoy these reads very much.

Okay, also, so you don’t think I’m a complete freak of nature, yes I did read some “age appropriate” books and some historical fiction (which I actually ENJOYED) so this list has a good mix of stuff. But my favorite, by far, were the scary faerie young adult fiction books. Don’t get it twisted.

Here’s my list copied from my Goodreads page. If you want you can follow me there, (Emily M. Griffith) however, I do want to point out that I give almost every book 5 stars, so I’m not really too discerning when it comes to reviews because me likey to read. And, please, comment below to let me know what you're reading or if you have any other recommendations you think I might like. I'm always looking for new books to read!  :)
